Fight over nursing room

I was so amazed to read about how these 2 parents were fighting over a nursing room in Vivocity (a mall in Singapore), on AsiaOne yesterday.

Apparently, a mom was breastfeeding in a family room, with the husband guarding the door coz the door has no lock. Another couple wanted to use the room for changing their baby's diapers and was told that they need to wait 15 mins more before the mom is done with breastfeeding the baby inside. They then went into an argument because the parents outside the family room shouted back and said that the room is not meant to be a nursing room.

What I found more appalling was that there were tons of readers who wrote in to say that both couples are selfish, they should have shared, the mom should have breastfed in public instead, etc. One of the parent who had been to the family room at Vivocity commented that the room is a little too small to accommodate 2 families.

Come on, to me, I think this is just like 2 girlfriends fighting over a boyfriend who is two-timing them. Apparently, I think the fault lies with the design of the family room itself!! It's just not very conducive. I've been to many family rooms both here in the U.S. and in Singapore that can accommodate more than 1 family in the room. There're special corners/small rooms for breastfeeding, and diaper-changing facilities. Why don't these 2 parents go to malls with better family rooms instead of complaining and accusing each other as being selfish? If they want to go to such malls, then they should be prepared for the possibility of such inconveniences. Why are the Singaporeans who wrote in to comment so narrow-minded and joined in the accusations? Sorry, I really don't understand.

What I found even more depressing are moms who proudly wrote in to say, "If you are so proud of breastfeeding, why not breastfeed in public?" These moms have been first-time parent before, I'm sure. They are probably experts right now in breastfeeding, but have they forgotten about the times when they were struggling with breastfeeding their newborns? I really wonder where the empathy had gone.
