Ways of preparing fish for baby

Ainsley, my second daughter, is quite a picky eater. She could even pick out the difference between a Singapore farm egg and a Malaysian farm egg (being the Malaysian farm egg has a stronger taste, more 'fishy')

I wanted to start her on fish this week, at 8 months. Worried that she will not want the fishy smell, I start to research on ways to prepare fish for baby. Below are some tips:

1. Never defrost fish or other seafood at room temperature or under tap water in Singapore. Always defrost fish either in the refrigerator or in cold water. I used the later. This being, the warm temperature of Singapore weather will cause bacteria to grow in the uncooked fish, thus resulting in a fishy smell, even before fish is cooked.

2. I steamed fish with some sliced ginger as well as some celery. The celery gives the fish a wonderful fragrance and celery does remove the fishy smell from the fish.

3. When baby is older, can steam fish together with celery and tomatoes too. The tomatoes give it a sweet taste.

4. Some of the vegetables that goes well with fish porridge include broccoli, carrots and spinach. Broccoli and carrots add a sweet taste to the porridge, whereas spinach is a great source of iron, which makes the meal complete. Iron is an important mineral which growing babies need on a daily basis.

Will share more tips along the way... cheers!
